If you are interested in receiving vision correction that is tailored to your individual needs, you should consider undergoing custom wavefront LASIK surgery at our Boston practice. Wavefront LASIK goes one step beyond traditional LASIK, providing treatment based on three-dimensional measurements of your eyes. In order to collect these measurements, our practice utilizes the highly advanced LADARWave® Custom Cornea system. This system analyzes your eye and creates a wavefront map that is used to guide your custom LASIK treatment.

Improving the Quality of your Vision
The main benefit of wavefront LASIK surgery is that it possesses the ability to improve not only how much you can see, but also the overall quality of your vision. Though vision is typically measured on a 20/20 chart, having 20/20 vision does not necessarily mean that a patient has a high quality of vision. Patients with 20/20 vision may still experience some visual distortions, known as higher-order aberrations. These higher- order aberrations include problems with contrast sensitivity and night vision problems such as glare and halos.
Patients who undergo custom LASIK surgery not only have a better chance of achieving vision that is 20/20 or higher, but also have a decreased chance of experiencing loss of contrast sensitivity or night vision disturbances.
General Considerations
- Not everyone is a good candidate for wavefront LASIK surgery. Our Boston practice will evaluate factors such as the thickness of your cornea before determining if this procedure is right for you.
- Wavefront LASIK is often an ideal procedure for patients who have visual problems that are unusual or difficult to correct through other methods.
- Due to the caliber of the equipment used for custom LASIK, the procedure costs more than traditional LASIK.
- Like other refractive procedures, custom LASIK won’t cure all vision-related problems and poses a small degree of risk for infection, flap complications, and imperfect correction.
