TECNIS™ Intraocular Lens Implant Procedure
Causes and Symptoms of Cataracts
Cataracts can form over time as the aging process causes proteins to clump together in the part of the eye known as the crystalline lens. The crystalline lens is in the back of the eye and focuses the light that first enters the eye through the cornea. Once the protein deposits that accumulate on the crystalline lens form cataracts, vision can become blurry and cloudy. In addition to these symptoms, cataracts can also cause halos, sensitivity to light, and poor night-time vision.
Cataract symptoms can be reversed with the TECNIS™ intraocular lens implant, the only intraocular lens approved by the FDA. If you are experiencing vision problems caused by cataracts, contact the New England Eye Center and schedule a consultation to determine whether the TECHNIS™ intraocular lens is right for your needs.
The TECNIS™ Intraocular Lens Implant Procedure
The procedure to place the TECNIS™ intraocular lens implant is performed under general anesthesia and consists of two parts. First, ultrasonic waves are focused on the eye so that the crystalline lens and cataracts are broken into tiny pieces. Then, after these pieces have been vacuumed away, the TECNIS™ intraocular lens implant is inserted to take the place of the crystalline lens.
Patients require little to no recovery time, and many notice significant improvement in their vision immediately after the procedure or within the next day. The TECNIS™ intraocular lens can dramatically improve cataract symptoms and often enable patients to achieve the level of vision acuity that they enjoyed as younger adults.
