HEATHER GILLIS: My name is Heather Gillis, I’m a marketing professional in the Boston area. I decided to have this kind of surgery because I am extremely nearsighted and I wanted to be free of the complete reliance on either contacts or glasses. It has improved the quality of my life and has far exceeded any expectations I had. I had assumed it would be more convenient, simply thinking I save the time from putting in contacts in the morning, removing them at the end of the day and cleaning, the time commitment, but the ability to do everyday things has improved, the ability to do things such as simply going swimming or falling asleep on an airplane and waking up or watching T.V. in bed or reading in bed has all improved. Driving at night is easy. I can see. If I was wearing glasses at night, I had the issue with seeing -- with not being able to see out of the sides of the glasses. And after wearing contacts all day, it was uncomfortable to keep contacts in. Immediately after the surgery, it was actually amazing. At the completion of the surgery prior to the eye patch, I could see a little bit without any glasses or contacts. The eye patch went on. Two hours later when I was in Dr. Woo’s office and the patch was taken off, it was amazing because I could actually see something without glasses or contacts.
