DR. HELEN WU: Well, I think it’s important to do as much background research as possible prior to visiting a physician’s office. The important thing to do would be probably to start with accessible means of information like the Internet and our new website, eyesurgeryeducation.org, I think would be a great place to start. I think patients should be aware of what procedures they may be a candidate for, they should be aware of alternative procedures and have at least a rudimentary understanding of the risks and benefits of each of those procedures. And hopefully they come in armed with a list of questions that they know that they should ask their surgeon.
